They were actually doing this in our neighborhood this week! Firefighters came to fish out missing residents from that building across the street. They had taped up their windows nice and good — not just an X, but a work of abstract art representing every possible angle, because those hurricane winds are so wily and unpredictable. They slowly worked their way through removing the tape, but at one point, right about the time the leaves fell from the trees, the tape removal pastime stopped. We never saw that shirtless man through the window again, nor his ceiling cat. That brings us back to the firefighters who climbed in through the upstairs window looking for something. Maybe a dead body? Maybe two dead bodies? They came up empty-handed. That’s the end of the story.

They also came back the next day and did the same thing, with the fire chief, and left empty handed. Again. It’s all a mystery.
