None of this was a personal attack, as I said, this bullshit is everywhere between the women (and men) on this platform and it’s out of hand. We are adults, and more importantly we are all the same insecure, opinionated creatures.

full thread (kbels, BAL, Kbels) HERE, if you care to read, I just reblogged this bit for truth and perspective. I, too, have seen so much of this these days. Everyone’s hepped up on goofballs. Maybe it’s the tension the holidays bring, maybe it’s the economy, maybe it’s the fact we all keep losing our jobs and maybe, like me, you’re just looking around growing increasingly dissatisfied with things in general but HEYO we’re all feelin it, and I’m picking up that we’re all feeling a bit raw and a bit fatigued and a bit vulnerable and a bit defensive.

Now let’s remember that here on tumblr and in meatspace and things will go swimmingly.

Then we can bid 2009 a hearty ‘fuckyou gurl, bye’ with a ceremonial barf in the toilet at 11:49, wash out our hairs, rinse our faces and go on our merry way.

I remember when I was growing up my mom and grandma pushed my brother and I pretty hard as far as school goes and they worked even harder to make sure my brother and I didn’t become statistics. That I didn’t end up pregnant, that he didn’t wind up in jail, that we were good kids who would become good people.

I also remember that a lot of the time when they were raising us, they would subtly and sometimes not so subtly say things like, “You have to do better than them if you want the same respect.” The them being white people, and I remember my brother and I being confused because we were growing up in a different time.

My grandmother grew up in the fifties, there were still “Whites only” signs hanging on every public building, and my mom was born immediately after the Civil Rights Movement, when people were still pissed about forced desegregation…

And I remember they pushed us so hard not to become what they saw as “stereotypical black kids”, and so we worked hard, we did what they wanted, we were placed in honors courses, we took up marching band, and because of it a lot of our friends were white. This created an entirely new problem, because then they feared that we were losing “our blackness” and this troubled them because while they wanted us to break the mold of what is expected of black kids, when we did, they were almost afraid that we would forget who we were.

It’s just, our experiences with white America are not those of our mother and grandmother. We didn’t experience racism on the scale they did. Some of our best friends were, and still are, white. Not just white though, but people of every background and ethnicity. Our experiences differed so much that on the occasions where we did find ourselves on the wrong end of the color spectrum it felt like somebody had hit us.

This may not make sense, but…it’s probably a good thing that racism isn’t what is used to be, and most people aren’t that way, so that when you come across someone who is, it feels like a slap in the face, instead of something you have to accept as the status quo.

Racism is still here not because of our generation, but because of the previous generations inability to let go, and they pass the anger, on all sides, down to their kids, and we become worked up over stupid things. We get angry over something that, had everyone really forgiven, would be nothing to argue over.

I know that there are still racist people out there, and that anybody can be racist, but I wish everyone would move past the point where we’re blaming people for the sins of their fathers.

If people would just accept that their ancestors did terrible things, instead of trying to soften the cruelty of their actions, and if others would accept the sincere apologies of some, maybe the issue of race wouldn’t constantly be rearing it’s head.

Then again, as long as there are people who want to aggravate the differences between people for political or personal gain, something that should be relatively simple, will take forever…

Smashbox doode!!! I used to use Clinique all the time, but when I went not too long ago, I realized they changed all their moisturizer formulas and tinted me right out of all of them.

Either way too much coverage or not nearly enough and all their colors changed too. My skin, it’s fair, you think then you actually put stuff on it and you realize it’s a lot less fair than it looks like it’s going to be. I’ve always had trubble matching it to anything. So then…oh blessed Jesus, then I discovered the gloriousness of Smashbox tinted moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF (in Luminous) and high definition concealer. (Their primer is to die also but I try to use as little as possible on mah skin)

Also, Kiss my face 3 way color in ruby on cheeks and lips and some black mascara (I don’t care what kind as long as it isn’t clumpy).

I’m one of those who doesn’t mind springing for the fundamentals, and then I cheap out on fun stuff like eyeshadow, lippy and the like. Then I can play around without worrying about wasting money, spending a fortune feeling the need to be too conservative.

Also, girls…never buy the fracking makeup brushes at these places. I believe in the power of a good brush as much as the next person but just check the brush you like (or they use/recommend) remember it and then go to your closest, best stocked art supply store and buy the exact same brush, perhaps even better quality, for cheap cheap cheap! Blush and powder brushes too. Precisely the same brushes they sell as Bobby Brown (et. al) just scads cheaper.

Now you know my really super complicated beauty routine.

Smashbox has an awesome foundation formula but I can’t remember if it’s that or MUFE (Make Up For Ever) that has silica in it, and when you get photographed (as queens are wont to do) your face turns white like a sheet and very very shiny. I think this is Rihanna’s problem sometimes when her face looks grey-ish.

Well I do know that smasbox was developed specifically for film and TV peeps before it was sold commercially to us plebes so I can’t imagine they would formulate makeup to be purposely photographed poorly. I don’t think. They do have lots of light reflective stuff, but it’s actually quite luminous when photographed. I think, anyway.

Oh wait…and, hilariously a dozen christmas cards, in their envelopes, addressed from last year that I never got around to sending, I was honestly trying out the sending xmas cards thing and my mom almost had a heart attack.

I was thinking I’d just steam open the envelopes and change the date on teh inside and send em out this year. But I probably won’t.

Sad part is…the reason i didn’t mail em is because the stamps were in the kitchen and I was in the living room.

there are a few theories i have about being a so-called adult. here are the top theories:

an adult should be able to tidy his/her house enough in a 15-minute window so that he/she can accept an impromptu visit from a friend/acquaintance

an adult should have a well-stocked kitchen, with appropriate dishes, flatware, cutlery, and kitchen “gadgets”

an adult should have a well-stocked pantry, with the basic essentials needed to cook a meal on the fly

an adult should not be concerned about overdrawing his/her bank account - ever

an adult has an up-to-date address book and sends holiday cards, thank you cards, and birthday cards

i’m sure i have more theories, but these are my top 5

no offense, but this is really stupid.

In what shangri-la do you live where adults don’t worry about overdrawing their bank accounts. ‘ever’. ? For real.

And, call me whatever you want (sick, hungover, unnecessarily rude) but I’m so sick to death of lists like this where other people try to make grandiose claims about what ‘grown ups’ or ‘adults’ or ‘over 25s’ or whatever look like. These are just your own personal neurosis and personal ideologies. Ok? If the rest of the world doesn’t fall in line with yer fuckin kitchen gadgetry and notecard obsession (I hear they’re pretty low on those in Rwanda at the moment) they actually get to be adults too. Right?
