Do you have an app for that? Huh? Do ya?

Can you even believe I don’t have a cellphone?  Or a blackberry or a whatevermathingy.

HAH!

I totally don’t.  I had one in Calgary, then I broke it.  Then I just shut it off.  Then I bought a cheap disposable one down here.  And it had all kinds of minutes on it, but i never used it and they expired (and they gave me about 8 months).

I actually haven’t actively used a cellphone in, oh, 5 years or so, because I never talk on the phone and I find texting to be so ubiquitous now that it’s mostly just rude.  To do it while your out with people, at a bar or at a restaurant, or anywhere really, is just poor manners.

I’m such a square.

Barhar.

The novel, published on July 1, 1984, predicted the World Wide Web, cyberspace, and a lot of other things. Which of William Gibson’s predictions have come true, and which still seem far off?

This book blew my mind.

I can’t talk about Gibson or Stephenson without getting all weird and fangirl-ish. So here. Just look at the link then.

The future has arrived…
Color Picker is an innovative design of a concept pen that can scan colors from anything around and instantly use the color for drawing. After placing the pen against an object, the user just presses the scan button. The color is being detected by the color sensor and the RGB cartridge of the pen mixes the required inks to create the target color. This superb device will help people to observe the changing colors of nature. With color picker, all range of artists will be able to create a more sensorial and visual insight of their surrounding nature’s colors.
More info: Color Picker

NO! This might very well be the coolest thing I’ve seen all year. So you know what Apple? Until I can scan the color of an ACTUAL APPLE and then instantaneously apply it to my fucking ipod or iphone or idildo, you lose. Keep your moving water animations, I want a this.

Wanna Know if you're microwave is safe?

And not letting any of the microwaves through the doors etc?  Do like the Russians and put your laptop in it.  Here, I’ll let him explain:

To check this you need to get a laptop that can fit your oven, the laptop should support wi-fi too. As author says the microwave shielding should not let wi-fi signals to reach the computer placed in the oven too, thus placing it inside, then closing the door and trying to ping your hidden-in-the-oven pc (it might be mac probably too) would tell you if you are fairly protected each time you warm up your dish.

In this guy’s case he has nice microwave that shuts down any wifi for the laptop inside so the pings don’t reach it.

“Don’t try to turn your microwave on, while experiment”, warns the author.

Germany denies Most Evil patent ever

Germany has declined to patent a cyanide-equipped RFID chip developed in Saudi Arabia.

A Saudi Arabian inventor has filed for a patent on a potentially lethal science fiction-style human tracking microchip, the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA) told The Local on Friday.

But the macabre innovation that enables remote killing will likely be denied copyright protection.

um..thanks, Germany? Or…maybe not?  Maybe it would be better to patent that shit and throw it into the fires of Mordor?

God people are fucked up.

inchworm gel

A chemical gel that can walk like an inchworm, or looper caterpillar has been demonstrated in a Japanese robotics lab.

Shingo Maeda and colleagues made the colour-changing, motile gel by combining polymers that change in size depending on their chemical environment. This is based on an oscillating chemical reaction called the Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. The result is an autonomous material that moves without electronic stimulation.
